VIKA Open House
As a supporter of VIKA and as their sound engineer, I was on the Island this past Saturday at their “Open House” to answer any questions the public may have had regarding noise.
I had the opportunity of viewing their property prior to the open house and I can tell all of you that they are on the right track.
I was able to meet and discuss this project with the Mayor and Councillor of the North Cowichan Municipality. They are definitely in favour.
The open house was a lead-up to the “Public Hearing” on rezoning which takes place on Thursday, March 26th. I will be attending this meeting in support and to offer my expertise. After the public hearing, the Council will vote for approval at their next scheduled Council Meeting, usually within 10 days.
Folks, this looks really encouraging. I think it’s going to GO.
Best of luck to VIKA and all the hard work and trying times they have endured. My hat is off to all of the VIKA executive.

Last Thursday, March 26, 2009, Peter Sorrell and I attended the public hearing at the North Cowichan City Hall in support of VIKA’s new racing facility. There were many supporters and a few locals against the project. Not surprisingly the number one issue was noise followed by the potential for forest fires, ignited by the large number of people attending the races. The fire issue caught us by surprise. Generally, I felt the hearing went quite well. The supporters that spoke were passionate about karting and conveyed it to Council very well.
According to the North Cowichan web site, the recommendation is to place this by-law on the regular Council meeting agenda of Wednesday, April 15,2009 for consideration.
Until then, we will keep our fingers crossed!

As you are all probably aware, Vancouver Island Karting Association is seeking rezoning for a piece of industrial land in North Cowichan. We have been taking a bit of flak in the local papers and one of them currently has a poll going as to whether the location chosen is suitable. The location is in an industrial park at the edge of the municipality with few very residences within a quarter mile. The Club would appreciate it if you could go on their web page and vote Yes to the location. If you could forward this email to any of your contacts that are not listed in this email, we would really appreciate it (i.e. kart club contacts other than VIKA, could you sent it to your membership). You can vote only once from each computer. The results of this poll will be published this coming Wednesday so time is of the essence. The web site is http://www.cowichannewsleader.com and the poll is half way down page 1. Thank you all for your support.
