Track Preparation Needed for 2010 Season
In order to prepare for the first event, the track will be closed on March 6th and 7th for the annual WCKC work bee.
This work bee weekend is an important yearly ritual that sees all WCKC members working to clean and prepare the facility for the season ahead. As the grounds are typically neglected over the winter break, there’s always much to do, and this year we have the additional task of repairing the Grand Stands.
We need all of our members energetic participation in this essential preamble to the season. We’ll be starting Saturday and Sunday morning at 10am.
The track will re-open on Sunday afternoon to those members who contributed in the weekend activities. Normal GMR scheduling will resume Monday.
Grand Stand Repair Details:
If you all remember, at the end of 2009, we had to fence off the grand stands due to safety concerns as many of the wooden slats had rotted completely through.
The repair process will consist of removing the old slats and installing new, pressure treated versions that will last longer than what was previously installed. Mark Saunders (your 2010 Vice President) is having the required materials and supplies delivered to the track for Saturday, March 6th, but in order to get the repair done over the weekend (think of how many slats are on those stands!), we need as many people as possible to come and help us remove the old slats on Saturday and install the new ones on Sunday.
General/Maintenance Task Details:
Garbage Collection:
Walk around the track, remove any rubbish.
Tire Wall Repair:
Fix where karts have gone through - this is a dirty job, you need to be prepared with rain clothes, gloves boots, etc because you will get wet.
Grass:
Cut the grass
Berms:
Weed whack and cut back the black berries, fix the fence
Scoring Tower:
Cleanup, organize, take an inventory.
Track:
Magnetic Stripes - Re-calk old joints with new material
Cut line in and put magnetic strips in for short track
Wire Fence:
Repair where necessary
Gates, Doors, Etc:
Ensure they all function, lock correctly. Repair as necessary.

Super Motard and Mini Motard Bike Update
Our new Motard bike members have worked with George Rickman and Stan Lawes to achieve the GMR sound requirements of 82db. This has been a project that George Rickman has worked on for some time now and it is exciting to see his hard work pay off. Glenn Nixon was also instrumental in completing the testing sessions as they worked to meet the sound requirements. The bikes will now be able to join us on practise days having their own sesions in the practise rotation enjoying full practise previlidges.
Motard Bike Memberships Approved
The club has approved both Super and Mini Motard bike practise memberships. Both groups are looking forward hosting race events at GMR in the near future. Updates will be posted as the programs develop.

A Message from the President
I would like to thank all the WCKC members that volunteered their time and effort to make racing counter-clockwise at GMR a reality. The addition of new curbing and asphalt and the restructuring of tire barriers needed to race CCW would not have been possible without the hard work of these individuals. Other recent improvements include the addition of a BBQ and picnic tables to the WCKC club tent. This track belongs to the membership of WCKC and it is wonderful to see what can be done when we take pride in ownership. Let’s keep making Greg Moore Raceway a great place to race and have fun!
Permanent B-B-Q free for use by Members
Following a generous donation, there is a large gas B-B-Q permanently under the Club marquee. This can be used anytime by Practise Members. So throw some meat, makings and drinks in a cooler and come on up to the track.
Also, the B-B-Q is available for members and visitors to use on the Saturday night of Sunday race-weekends, when there is not a pot-luck dinner.
Flag Stations are now in place.
Permanent structures, with corner marshalls raised 2′ for better observation are now a reality.

Medical Requirement Revision
At the January 31st, 2009 BCKCA AGM the kart clubs of BC voted unanimously in favor of Russ Walsh’s proposal to remove the current medical requirements in lieu of an annual medical self declaration. This vote enabled John Gregg, president of BCKCA, to ask the vice president of competition, and director of karting at ASN, Paul Cooke, to make this change.
Currently, ASN has agreed to remove the medical requirement for racers under the age of 50 years. A revised medical self declaration must still be completed in order to compete. This new form will be made available on this web site as soon as we receive it from BCKCA.
WCKC gratefully acknowledges the support of ASN and BCKCA for helping to make competitive kart racing much easier to become involved in.
CartBC Name Change to West Coast Kart Club
Since 2009 will be the beginning of a new era in karting in the lower mainland and at CartBC we decided to hold a competition to come up with a new name and logo for our club. The name decided was West Coast Kart Club and the track has been renamed Greg Moore Raceway in honour of Greg Moore a long time BC kart racer.
Samuel O’Young
On behalf of CartBC and all of our karting members our condolences go out to the O’Young family for their loss. We have all lost a wonderful human being who has touched so many people in his years in motorsports.
Sam was always there to help anyone who asked. He had vision and drive and his son Daryl is a true testament of the man who set him on his journey as a young kart racer. Sam mentored a lot of people in our sport through the years and will be missed by all.
Sam, you can now race that perfect race for eternity, no more crashes, no more parts to buy and engines to rebuild into the wee hours of the night. You will remain a true champion forever, God Bless and God Speed!
