I would like to thank all the WCKC members that volunteered their time and effort to make racing counter-clockwise at GMR a reality. The addition of new curbing and asphalt and the restructuring of tire barriers needed to race CCW would not have been possible without the hard work of these individuals. Other recent improvements include the addition of a BBQ and picnic tables to the WCKC club tent. This track belongs to the membership of WCKC and it is wonderful to see what can be done when we take pride in ownership. Let’s keep making Greg Moore Raceway a great place to race and have fun!

I have to say that I am very pleased with the response from our members. Over the last 2 weeks the amount of work acomplished is simply amazing and the number of members that participated is absolutly fantastic. I would say that we have had over 50% of our membership help complete the work so far. The track looks great and is something we can all be proud of.
Greg Moore Raceway is truly a world Class CIK homologated track and the facility is quickly improving to world standards as well.

Here is a list of projects completed

New front gate and track signage installed
Asphalt added to facilitate running CCW
relocated concession and club pit area
New sound system
New permanent Flag Station
Curbs and Track lines painted
Dealer row established and dealer containers on site
Kart Storage container system under way
Registration office set up in lower container
Electronic visa/debit/mastercard processing onsite
2 try a karts on site
Try a kart program operating
The track is now running counter clockwise

Our actions to form one club here at GMR have proved to be the correct plan of action based on the response from people. We are seeing new members weekly and comments are all the same WOW what a great track.

Thanks to everyone who has come out and helped out. It has been a lot of fun. Stan and Peter, you guys are doing a great job!

Hey Russ. I am getting back into Karting after a very long absence. I was at the track yesterday, both Mission and Chilliwack. I must say, although I belonged to Westwood before, I loved the track and the people I talked to at GMR, especially Shane. I was thinking of buying an 04 First Kart from a friend of mine and eventually putting a TAG motor on it but I'm on a shoestring budget so may only get some practise in this year. Anyhow, the point of all this is, if you allow outside help, I would be more than happy to come out on work days to help you with whatever you need to keep the track in shape. What better way to get to know some people and get pointed in the right direction. Have a great day.

Hello Russ,
I am new in this club but nothing as you said is news to me, I have belong to many clubs in my past and still belong to few today (cycling, swimming, volleyball).
I congratulate you for your efforts ; welcoming newcomers, moving the club meeting to the people, adding food to gathering for conviviality .
I also know that people who come need to feel appreciate and the ones who can not take the time could also help by giving to the club in other forms.
But each member of the club must donate something in the spirit of unity and equality. The time given or other way of participating is the life source of the entity that we call our club, WCKC.
I have spoken to Stan in regard to help and I should be working in the "management" of the blackberry next time I will come testing ( wed. 22/4).
In a common bond,
Cheers

Ladies and Gentlemen

I am pleased to announce that the Vancouver Island Karting Association has successfully obtained approval from the North Cowichan Municipality to construct a kart track. Third reading of the by-law was unanimously approved tonight, April 15, 2009.

Congratulations to all on the Island.

As you are all probably aware, Vancouver Island Karting Association is seeking rezoning for a piece of industrial land in North Cowichan. We have been taking a bit of flak in the local papers and one of them currently has a poll going as to whether the location chosen is suitable. The location is in an industrial park at the edge of the municipality with few very residences within a quarter mile. The Club would appreciate it if you could go on their web page and vote Yes to the location. If you could forward this email to any of your contacts that are not listed in this email, we would really appreciate it (i.e. kart club contacts other than VIKA, could you sent it to your membership). You can vote only once from each computer. The results of this poll will be published this coming Wednesday so time is of the essence. The web site is www.cowichannewsleader.com and the poll is half way down page 1. Thank you all for your support.

President, Vancouver Island Karting Association.

Last Thursday, March 26, 2009, Peter Sorrell and I attended the public hearing at the North Cowichan City Hall in support of VIKA's new racing facility. There were many supporters and a few locals against the project. Not surprisingly the number one issue was noise followed by the potential for forest fires, ignited by the large number of people attending the races. The fire issue caught us by surprise. Generally, I felt the hearing went quite well. The supporters that spoke were passionate about karting and conveyed it to Council very well.

According to the North Cowichan web site, the recommendation is to place this by-law on the regular Council meeting agenda of Wednesday, April 15,2009 for consideration.

Until then, we will keep our fingers crossed!

Just prior to my presidency at Westwood we were IKF and everyone who raced needed to be a member of IKF at that time. If that has changed as you say then that is great news for karters here in BC.
The Island looks to be getting their track and say we could see it as soon as next race season. Just think we would then have 4 tracks here in BC and we could run a great Regional race series like we did in the past.
Things seem to be going in the right direction for our sport finally.
